{"id":1046,"date":"2026-09-11T15:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T13:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tuscansecretexperience.it\/?post_type=structure&#038;p=1046"},"modified":"2026-10-21T22:19:53","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T20:19:53","slug":"torre-delle-sette-seghinelle","status":"publish","type":"structure","link":"https:\/\/www.tuscansecretexperience.it\/en\/structures\/torre-delle-sette-seghinelle\/","title":{"rendered":"Torre delle Sette Seghinelle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 13th-century&nbsp;<strong>Tower<\/strong> <em>known as the Sette Seghinelle<\/em>&nbsp;rises in one of the&nbsp;<strong>most strategic points<\/strong>&nbsp;of medieval Siena:&nbsp;along the descent of the&nbsp;<strong>Costarella<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>de\u2019 Barbieri<\/strong> towards Piazza del Campo&nbsp;and on the prestigious <strong>Via di Citt\u00e0.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>REACHING THE TOP&nbsp;<\/strong><br>Climbing four flights of stairs inside Palazzo Accarigi, you reach the accessible part of the Tower.<br>From here you access another <strong>two flights<\/strong> of&nbsp;stairs, this time&nbsp;<strong>inside the Tower<\/strong>. At the top of the first flight you reach a room&nbsp;with an evocative medieval&nbsp;<strong>barrel vault<\/strong>. Climbing the second flight you finally arrive at the magnificent<strong>&nbsp;top of the Tower<\/strong>, in the open air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tower, a medieval&nbsp;<strong>symbol<\/strong>&nbsp;of its owner\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>power<\/strong>, was built by the&nbsp;<strong>Accarigi<\/strong>&nbsp;family in the 13th century and was first known as <strong><em>Rustici al Canto della Costarella<\/em><\/strong><em>, called the Tower of the Sette Seghinelle.<\/em>&nbsp;<br>In the 14th century, the Accarigi had&nbsp;<strong>Palazzo Accarigi<\/strong> built on Piazza del Campo and on the Costarella, incorporating the pre-existing Tower and thus creating a tower<strong>\u2013<\/strong>house.<br>The Accarigi were Guelphs, members of the \u201cGrandi di Siena\u201d and of the&nbsp;<strong>Government of the Nine<\/strong>, later joining the Patriciate in 1753.<br>Both the Tower and the Palazzo are&nbsp;protected as <strong>listed monuments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to one theory, the S<em>eghinella<\/em>&nbsp;was a stone ornament at the top of a tower, arranged in a chequered pattern, and the Tower was so named because at its top it had <strong>seven<\/strong> rows of this ornament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tower is built of cavernous limestone, or \u201c<strong>tower stone<\/strong><em>\u201d<\/em>, used in the Romanesque period for towers and noble palaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>venue<\/em> can be rented for intimate wedding celebrations; small <strong><em>corporate<\/em> events<\/strong>; aperitifs or apericena (aperitif dinners) served with catering; tasting courses<em>; <\/em>book presentations; exclusive private events; <em>meetings<\/em>; exhibitions; small conferences; filming or photo shoots, film sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The open-air <strong>top of the Tower<\/strong> has room for up to about <strong>30 people<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The room with the <strong>medieval barrel vault<\/strong> in the Tower can accommodate up to 15\/20 people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Palazzo Accarigi (inside the same building), as <strong>extra space<\/strong> or in case of <strong>bad weather<\/strong>: the <strong>room overlooking Piazza del Campo<\/strong> has a ceiling painted with grotesques and accommodates up to 20\/30 people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>small room, with wall paintings<\/strong> in <em>trompe-l\u2019oeil<\/em>, accommodates up to 10\/15
